On September 5, 2017, the Department of Homeland Security announced the rescission of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program enacted in 2012 by the Obama administration. This action places nearly 800,000 DACA holders in danger of deportation and has created fear, anxiety and chaos. The City and County of San Francisco has reiterated its support for immigrants and especially the most vulnerable. OCEIA has developed an emergency response plan, and together with community and city partners and the Immigrant Rights Commission is beginning immediate implementation.
