Rene Vazquez is a Bay Area writer with a passion for immigrant rights. A graduate student at San Francisco State University, he has worked diligently under the tutelage of San Francisco’s poet laureate, Alejandro Murguia.
A recipient of DACA, he has used this opportunity to join the second cohort of DreamSF Fellows and works as a social media assistant at the International Institute of the Bay Area. Prior to the DreamSF Fellowship, Rene served as the editor-in-chief for the literary journal of Latin writers, Cipactli. He hopes to connect the skills he will learn throughout fellowship with his teaching and writing experience in order to bridge the gap between at risk communities and social services.
Rene considers himself an artist, using writing as a form of resistance. He lives life one day at a time and is always in the heart of revision.
